The tradition started as an initiative around a
small group of local artists in The West Melton Area at Selwyn District
South Island New Zealand.
In just a few years it has grown to a wider area
and variety of artists, including some overseas exhibitors . The main aim is to promote and expose emerging
artists to decision makers in business organisations gallery owners, and
individuals involved in the art scene in Christchurch and beyond.
In order to make the venue even more attractive,
the exhibition hosts established artists alongside emerging ones, and
celebrates each year with a different well known guest exhibiter.
Each year the annual event starts off with a
festive opening night open to invited guests. The programme includes a
guest speaker, usually by a government minister or a well know figure in
the arts. Live classical music performers as well as bag pipe welcoming.
The event has become an attraction of a high
profile of individuals in the art scene from Christchurch and the
central Selwyn area, getting more recognition every passing year.
In 2007, the Centre initiated
Music Performances ,conducted on most months
of the year, offering performers to be heard in a respectable venue
which acts as a formal concert hall with somewhat intimacy and unique
atmosphere.
the motto of collaboration is kept in this area too
,hosting music evenings involving performers from a wide rainbow of the
music scene from classical to Jazz , Folk and ethnic music.
Each musical genre is presented in a series of
concerts to encourage collaboration between the Performers across the
series.
The Centre is also harnessing these wonderful
events momentum into charity events such as concerts or art auctions
donating the FULL REVENUE (no expenses deducted )to charity.
most days of the year, the
Gallery presents John Allan's work
as well as other artists work in clay pottery, wood ,painting and
stone.
